Market Square Tower's pool extends 10 feet beyond rooftop

Features: This retro-themed hotel will take you back to the road trip days of your childhood, although the setting is a bit fancier than you might remember. Relax in the water while listening to live music from the nearby Water Trough, visit the hotel's very own food truck or warm up at a nearby fire pit.

Downtown's Market Square Tower hasn't formally debuted to the public, but it's already drawing attention for one unique amenity. 

The new apartment building features a swimming pool, dubbed the "sky pool," which extends 10 feet beyond the side of the building. The pool has an 8-inch-thick plexiglass floor that allows swimmers to look directly down 40 stories — or 500 feet — onto Preston street. The dramatic view is almost as impressive from the ground level, where a look up shows the cantilevered pool bottom. 

For those afraid of heights, there's another pool on the fourth-floor terrace.

Market Square Tower, at 777 Preston,  is new to Houston's downtown scene and is accepting leases now. As of Wednesday, 25 percent of the tower's 463 units have been leased.

Prices range from $1,805 for a 564-square-foot studio, to $18,715 per month for a 2,993-square-foot penthouse. The two penthouses each have three bedrooms and three balconies, as well as views of Buffalo Bayou Park or Market Square Park. 

• Amenities, including a golf simulation room, sauna, children's playroom, adult game room and basketball court, poker suite and theater. The ground floor of the building will boast a cafe and an upcoming 13,000-square-foot CVS, which signed on as a tenant in October. Overall, there are two floors dedicated to entertainment features of the building.
